Regional Forestry Outreach Campaign

Role: Lead Designer, Outreach Project Manager

Nine conservation districts serving an 11-county region across Puget Sound partnered to create a resource catalog that helps forest landowners understand their stewardship options and connect with the right programs and services.

The Challenge

Many landowners aren’t sure where to begin with forest stewardship. Information is spread across multiple organizations, programs can be difficult to navigate, and technical language often creates barriers to getting help. Our goal was to make forest stewardship more approachable and encourage informed, long-term land management.

Research, Strategy & My Role

As lead designer, I collaborated with forest planners and outreach specialists from conservation districts across the region to identify the questions landowners asked most often and the information they struggled to find.

To tackle these challenges, I helped organize the region into smaller cross-disciplinary working groups of foresters and outreach specialists. Together, we mapped common pain points for landowners, identified information gaps, and developed a shared strategy for translating technical concepts into accessible resources.

More than Trees

While this brochure includes resources for landowners, the illustration was designed to serve a broader audience. It doubles as an educational handout for classrooms and a kid-friendly takeaway at community events, helping families engage with the topic and discover forestry services they might not have sought out otherwise.

Forest Management Plan Brochure
A guide that breaks down the purpose and process of creating a forest management plan, helping landowners understand a key step for accessing financial assistance.

Permits Checklist: Gives forest landowners a quick reference for determining which permits may be needed to help ensure compliance with local regulations.

Plant List: Provides landowners with a practical, DIY guide to diversifying an existing forest or selecting native species when establishing a new one.

Outcome

The completed campaign provided conservation districts with a cohesive outreach toolkit that could be used consistently across the region, making forestry resources more accessible while strengthening collaboration among partner organizations.
